Appliance Program

Illinois

The Illinois Retail Merchants Association welcomes you to a Webinar on the Illinois Appliance Rebate Program.

Learn how your business and your customers can benefit from federal stimulus money on energy-efficient appliances starting April 16, 2010.

WELCOME!

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

* The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) received $12.5 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to boost appliance sales through an instant 15% rebate on qualified appliance purchases throughout Illinois.
* About half of the funds were used for rebate programs on water heaters and units Jan – April 2010, leaving approximately $6.2 million for the white goods appliances program.
* The program is intended to help the environment while increasing retail sales.

ILLINOIS’ APPLIANCE REBATE PROGRAM:

* Prior to the program’s official start date, the state may make changes in the program rules.
* One of the more recent changes is in the program time. The program will run daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Friday, April 16 through Sunday, April 25, or until funds run out.
* E-mail is the primary vehicle of communicating with retailers in this program. It is vital that you check your email regularly.
* Eligible products include: Energy Star-qualified refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, clothes washers and room air conditioners.
* The federal Energy Star list is the final say in which product models qualify for a rebate. If in doubt, visit the federal website at:

www.energystar.gov

* Only in-store sales at participating Illinois retailers are eligible for rebates. No pre-sales or online sales will be allowed for this program.

* Customers will receive an instant 15% rebate at point-of-sale for any qualifying ENERGY STAR appliance in the 5 categories listed.
* Those purchasing refrigerators or freezers will be eligible for an additional $75 mail-in rebate. The customer must mail the rebate form along with a copy of their receipt and written proof from the retailer or hauler that the old item has been hauled away.
* If you cannot find a company to recycle the old appliance, please contact:

JACO Environmental Inc. – 425-398-6200, www.jacoinc.net

ARCA, Inc. – 866-899-9088, www.arcaincutility.com

* Retailers are encouraged to hand out the mail-in rebate form to each customer purchasing a rebated refrigerator or freezer

* Only residential customers are eligible for rebates –corporate checks or credit cards are not acceptable forms of payment.
* There is a limit of one appliance type per visit – customers buying two refrigerators will only be eligible for a rebate on one of the units.
* Again, note that customers must make their rebated purchases in the store and NOT online.

* Retailers must provide daily sales data online through the program website – www.helpgreenillinois.org.
* Once on the website, click on the Report Sales tab at the top. Log in using your email and password. If you have not received a password or lost/misplaced your password, please contact IRMA at: 312.726.4600
* Submit your totals once by noon for the previous day’s sales. (Friday sales totals reported by noon on Saturday).
* You must report totals even if you had no sales on a given day.
* Failure to enter daily sales totals may result in being dropped from the program.

* Retailers will be notified by email at approximately 3 p.m. if the program is to be shut-down the following day.
* Notification will be given via email. Please check your email each day to find out if the program has used available funds and is closing.
* Appliances sold after 9 p.m. on the day the program shuts down will not be eligible for rebate reimbursement.
